New Caledonia
Contributing to Society
The Goro project will bring significant and positive socio-economic benefits to the people of New Caledonia. As well as generating approximately 800 jobs directly – a significant number in a territory that has an overall population of about 210,000 – it will also provide major long-term opportunities for local businesses and a stronger economic base for New Caledonia.
We continue to work with the nearby communities of Yaté and Mont-Dore to help them realize the benefits from plant construction and provide ongoing services to the operation. A Local Communities Involvement Programme is in place to optimize local communities' participation in the project through employment and business opportunities.
