Asian Joint Ventures

Vale Inco has a majority equity interest in four operations in North Asia, and a minority interest in two others.

The majority joint ventures include Jinco Nonferrous Metals Co., Ltd., in Kunshan (near Shanghai) which we operate in partnership with China’s Jike Mining Co., and Inco TNC Limited, in Matsuzaka, Japan, which produces nickel for the local stainless steel market and for export. Our newest operations in North Asia are Inco Advanced Technology Materials (Dalian) Co., Ltd., located in Dalian, a coastal city of over five million people in the Liaodong Peninsula in northeastern China, and Inco Advanced Technology Materials (Shenyang) Co., Ltd., located in Shenyang, a city with a population of over six million people.

The minority joint ventures include Taiwan Nickel Refining Corporation in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and Korea Nickel Corporation in Onsan, Republic of South Korea.

Although our Asian joint venture operations are too small to contribute significantly to local community development initiatives, they all play important roles as respected employers in their local communities. Each of our operations is committed to responsible corporate citizenship. For instance, all three of our majority owned joint venture companies have employment standards that follow our corporate human resources guidelines and reflect local cultural standards and practices. And, they have consistently achieved world-class safety performances.

Each operation is also committed to environmental stewardship. Inco TNC Limited is ISO14001 certified, and Jinco Nonferrous Metals Co. Ltd., Inco Advanced Technology Materials (Dalian) Co., Ltd., and Inco Advanced Technology Materials (Shenyang) Co., Ltd., are OHSAS 18001 and IS 14001 certified.
